Getting my lifts back on the board

Posted by Josh, 26 April 2015 · 602 views

Sumo Deadlift

  • 475 Lb x 1 reps + 20 Lb Rep PR

Low Bar Squat

  • 405 Lb x 1 reps

Bodyweight

205 Lb

Made the deadlift video for my clients so they can see why mobility and flexibility work is so important. Also, 475 went up like butter after not deadlifting over 405 in months. Squat was a little grindy but hadn't low bar squatted over about 60% for a few months as well so I was happy with being able to get it up. Easing back into higher frequency squatting and heavy deadlifts once a week. Still staying away from bench while I fix my shoulder issues but it's getting better. Bench is going to need some heavy duty rehab if I want to actually accomplish a decent bench ever in my life. I'll be happy with a 315 bench some day but I'm just not built to bench huge. Hoping to get back up to the 250-275 range after a few months. We shall see. Focusing a lot on overhead strength and pec/shoulder mobility.

Also, I feel that both of these lifts are a PR in the sense that they met my old PR but we're much better form and would both get 3 lights. My previous 405 squat was a tad high and my 475 dead was shaky and jerky and shitty.

Finally have time and energy to post a new workout. Been crazy ass busy with new job. Got a personal training job at a gym in Portland, Oregon converting cardio bunnies to powerlifters. Fun ass job but holy shit is it time consuming. Gonna try to post some workouts here and there. Currently working on high bar beltless and shoeless and it's been going well. Gonna aim for between 365 and 405 no belt no shoes depending on how it goes. I feel like 405 is reachable. This was super easy. Also working on a lot of deficit speed deadlifts and one armed kettle bell overhead press to strengthen my overhead strength a long with tones of pull ups. Loving having a home gym and access to a full gym at work. This gym has everything I'd ever want for myself and for training clients. If anyone takes supplements and wants a discount on some pretty good shit let me know and I can set you up.

I missed this site. Glad to be back on it.

Time to take a little deload. Been going good for a while but starting to feel totally fried after workouts. Gonna do some hypertrophy work for a while when I come back. Probably in a weekish.

The goal I set for squats after my first meet in May 2014 was 365x3 385x2 and 405x1 by May 2015 so I went ahead and destroyed that so I'm super happy with my training progress so far.

Gonna start easing my way back in to deadlifts. These felt super easy. Felt really good for no belt. Still want to hit 385x3 on squats before I write up a new program so I'll probably continue with what I've been doing for 2 more weeks.

Felt like going crazy today. Paid off. Soon as a set it down I was ready for more. Did a 455 walkout and it felt heavy but felt achievable. Bench felt super light.
